Karen Kohut

October 28, 1954 — May 6, 2022

KAREN KOHUT – Karen Kohut passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday, May 6, 2022.

She was born on October 28, 1954, in West Point, NY, daughter of the late Mike and Lorene Kohut.

Karen’s family moved from Okinawa, Japan to Dover, DE and then relocated to Andrews Lake in Frederica, DE. She graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1973. After graduation, Karen worked in retail at Benjamins in the Blue Hen Mall. On June 14,1976, Karen obtained her Cosmetology and Barbering License. This led to a life-long career in the Cosmetology field. Karen worked at several salons in Milford with Image Beauty Hair being her last place of employment.  She forged many friendships with her long-standing clientele base.

Karen lived in Rehoboth Beach, DE for a brief time and then relocated to Milford, DE. It was in Milford that Karen’s dream of owning a home became a reality and she established life-time friendships with her neighbors. Not one to turn her back on a stray animal, she took in and fed many cats during her life in Milford.

Karen didn’t travel much but her dreams of attending concerts by Yanni, Celine Dion and Lady Gaga became realities. She was also able to attend the play CATS and mingled onstage with the cast during intermission. Karen was a sun worshiper and in her younger years spent time at the beach with family and friends and most recently enjoyed sitting poolside with family and friends.

Karen will be remembered as “a good person with a kind and generous heart”. Always willing to help someone out in a time of need.

A casual gathering to reminisce will be held on September, 17, 2022 at Rogers Funeral Home from 1pm -3pm. In lieu of flowers, Karen would be overjoyed if everyone would donate to their local SPCA or Animal Rescue Group.

Karen is survived by her brother, Michael Kohut of Greenwood, DE, her sister Michelle Lynch (Brian) of Bridgeville, DE and several nieces and nephews.

Karen was very touched by this poem and requested it be part of her obituary.

“Under God’s Trees”

When the storm has come and left nothing,

Come into the forest and rest,

You will find solace,

Under his trees.

When the cold wind blows across your soul,

Lay aside your pride and pray,

You will find comfort,

Under his trees.

And when joy has returned with wonder,

Come to the forest with others,

Your joy can be shared,

Under his trees.
