Joyce Smith

Joyce Ann Smith (McIlveen) age 70 of Milton, Delaware, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on Friday June 2 at 1:11pm; at her home surrounded by her family. Joyce was born December 15, 1952 in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Albert and Helen McIlveen.

Joyce graduated in 1970 from Gateway High School in Monroeville Pennsylvania and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Edinboro State University in PA. Mrs. Smith worked for Glen Mills School for 40 years before her retirement and relocation to Milton in 2020.

On May 25, 1975 Joyce married the love of her life, Vern Smith, in Edinboro, PA and together they shared 48 years of marriage together.  Joyce was an avid Phillies fan and followed figure skating closely including her daughter and son-in-law who are retired nationally ranked pairs skaters.  Joyce loved the Delaware beaches, especially her countless days at Cape Henlopen which drew them to move to Milton.

Joyce Smith is survived by her beloved husband Vern Smith; her precious daughter Erika ( A.J.) Smith-Reiss and her granddaughter, Joycelyn Verity, all of Milton.  She is predeceased in death by her parents and her brother, Terry McIlveen (Sandy), of NC.

The memorial service will be private.
