John Lemmon

January 25, 1925 — October 30, 2022

John Parke Lemmon passed away on October 30, 2022. He was born on January 25, 1925, in Wilmington, Delaware to John P. Lemmon Sr. and Helen Lemmon.  John graduated from Wilmington Friends School in 1943 and Duke University in 1948.  Mr. Lemmon also attended Muhlenberg College and did graduate work at Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.

He was purchasing and personnel manager for Libby McNeill Libby.  When they closed their Delaware plants, he joined the L.D. Caulk Company in Milford and retired in 1990 as Purchasing Manager.   John was past President and Secretary of the Houston Volunteer Fire Company, past Director of Delaware Credit Union League, a member of the board of directors of the Milford Memorial Hospital, the Milford Chamber of Commerce, the Milford Sr. Center and served on the board of his beach property at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach Delaware. He was a long-time member of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford and the Houston United Methodist Church.

Mr. Lemmon is predeceased by his wife and best friend, Hazel Lemmon; they were married for 61 years.  He is also predeceased by sister Elizabeth Batchelor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.   Survivors are daughter Gayle Fuller, her husband Gordon Fuller of Fairfax, Virginia; daughter Cheryl Lemmon of Woodbridge, Virginia; and his beloved grandchildren Hannah Deardorff, her husband Captain Daniel Deardorff; Andrew Fuller; and great grandchildren Kaidyn and Emory Deardorff.

He served in the US Navy for three years during World War II.  John and his wife traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean.  He was an avid golfer and marshaled at many PGA and LPGA events. After the death of his beloved wife, he moved to Greenspring Village in Springfield Virginia where he loved to play bridge, sing with the Choristers, and read. During his time at Greenspring he was a member of the Village Chapel.

A graveside service will be held at Milford Community Cemetery on Saturday 11/26 at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Houston United Methodist Church, 235 Broad Street, Houston, DE 19954.
