John Kelly

On May 29, 2019, John William Kelly, peacefully passed away, while surrounded by his loves ones at the Delaware Veterans Home.

He was born on December 3, 1928, in Bronx, NY to the late William and Edna Kelly. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School, Hunter College (BA), Iona College (MA) and Fordham University (PhD).

John honorably served our country in the US Navy from 1953 until 1958 when he was discharged to the reserves as a Lieutenant.

A life-long teacher, Dr. Kelly’s career began in the public elementary schools and culminated at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut where he served as a Professor of Education for many years.

He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, and long-time parishioner at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes, DE.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Kelly. He is also survived by his children; Timothy Kelly and his wife Jody, Christopher Kelly and his wife Lenore, Gregory Kelly and his wife Susan, and Daniel Kelly; his grandchildren; Anna, Gillian, Ashlyn, Zoe, Sean, Conor, Jack, Ryan, and Liam; his sister, Elizabeth, and his brothers, William and Tom Kelly. He was recently preceded in death by his brother, Peter Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Cardinal Hayes High School, Iona College or to Fordham University remembering an outstanding educator.
