Christine Hendel

June 2, 1940 — July 5, 2022

Milford – On July 5, 2022, Christine M. Hendel returned home to be with the Lord after succumbing to hospital-acquired Covid at Bayhealth Hospital.

Christine was born on June 2, 1940 in Detroit, MI to her parents, the late Joseph and Jane McCaughan.

Her father worked for the Westinghouse Corp., and was transferred for his job to various locations. As a result, Christine attended school in Delaware, Kansas, and Pennsylvania, eventually studying at Penn State University.

While working in Pittsburgh, she met the love her life, Dr. Edward Hendel. They moved to Milford in 1965 to raise their family. After working at the Stockley Center, she joined her husband’s dental practice where she always greeted patients with her warm smile and beloved dogs, Dudley and Duffy.

In her leisure time she enjoyed intricate fine needlepoint, gardening, reading, traveling, and memorable adventures with her husband, flying with him to different airports on their private plane. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was involved with the Milford Garden Club, Milford Historical Society and was a Girl Scout Troop leader. Every fall, Dr. and Mrs. Hendel could be seen hanging the wreaths on the Parson Thorne Mansion with her hand-crafted bows. The Mansion always looked beautiful at Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Edward Hendel and her daughter Carolyn in 2010.

She is survived by her son Gregory J. Hendel of Hyde Park, VT, her daughter Jennifer E. Hendel of Littleton, CO, sister Mary Ellen Mcmillen and sister-in-law, Janice H. Walker of Greenwood Village, CO, in addition to one niece and three nephews.
