Obituary

Billy Joe Pickett was born in Flintville, Tennessee on October 25th, 1933, to Henry and Kathleen (Copeland) Pickett.  The oldest of six children, he left the family farm to join the Air Force at the age of 18. He met and married the love of his life at his first posting in Biloxi, Mississippi. He served as a printer and among the many accomplishments in his career was starting the honor guard at Wiesbaden Air Force base in Germany, helping prepare for the Kennedy’s historic visit to Europe while in Paris, and working 6 ½ years for the Secretary of the Air Force at the Pentagon. In 1971 he retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service and began a second exemplary career as an officer of the United States Capitol Police, retiring in 1992.  He worked hard to get ahead in life, earning a GED and an Associate’s Degree.  He taught his children that education and hard work were the keystones to success and was particularly proud of his seven children.

He is survived by 4 siblings, 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.  He is proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years, Estelle; Mother and Father; Sister, Marie; granddaughters, Anastasia and Tatiana; and great-granddaughter Ellington.
