Obituary

Arthur John Bradley, Jr. the son of Arthur Sr. and Mildred Bradley, was born at home in Burrsville Maryland on August 29, 1936. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2022. He was brother to Charles, Beatrice, Alice, Maryann, Margaret, David, Phillip, and Edwin and affectionately known as “Sonny” by his family.

He grew up in the Farmington and Milford area and graduated from Milford High School in 1954. In 1956, he married his love, Jean Freeman Bradley. They remained in Milford and he and Jean enjoyed raising their three children together: Lynn, Cindy Kay, and Michael.

As one of very few builders in the area at the time, he started his own construction business in 1959, “Arthur J. Bradley Jr. Contractor-Builder.”  Later, as he had always especially enjoyed having his son, Michael, join him in the business, they incorporated and the business became “Bradley and Son Construction.”  He retired from the family business in 2017. His reputation for good quality work was well known because he truly lived the verse that he often quoted from Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”

He was a quiet man who was content to be at home most of the time. There, he enjoyed daily Bible reading, gardening, shooting pool, backyard birdwatching, family gatherings and just spending the time with his sweetheart, Jean. Sonny and Jean both marveled at where the time had gone as they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this spring. They appreciated and always enjoyed traveling together with their best friends, Bob and Gladys VanVorst. His favorite of their traveling adventures was time spent touring Israel retracing Jesus’ steps, and then in Egypt where he got to see the pyramids and even rode a camel. Most importantly, Art knew and put his confidence in the fact that his eternal home was already being prepared for him, built on the rock, by his Rock, Christ Jesus.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings, Charles, Beatrice, Alice, and MaryAnn and first grandson, Phillip. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean and his three children; Lynn Bradley, Cindy Kay Strader (Jack), and Michael Bradley (Stephanie) and their children; Adam Love, Rachel Bradley, Justin Strader, Jonathan Strader, Michael Bradley Jr., Matt Bradley, Seth Baker and Scot Baker as well as eleven great grandchildren.

A Going Home Service will be at Calvary Church in Milford, Delaware on Saturday, August 6th with visitation of friends and family starting at 11:00 am followed by the Celebration of Life at 12:00 pm.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to support Delaware Hospice in Milford.
