Alan Parker

April 15, 1940 — July 29, 2021

CAMDEN - Alan E. Parker passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021. Alan was born at home in Coon Rapids, Iowa on April 15, 1940, to Edmond Richard and Helen Josephine (Wine) Parker. In November 1958 he entered the Air Force and was honorably discharged as an airman 1st class. He was stationed at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he trained and handled dogs as part of the Military police.

Alan married Beth A. Powrie in 1973 in Wilmington Delaware. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and cruising. Chincoteague, Virginia mountains, and Arden Candlelight dinner theater were some of their favorite places.

Alan used his booming voice to propel his career in radio broadcasting. While at WDEL he was a popular DJ and later the Program manager. After moving to Virginia, he was instrumental in building and programming a new country music station, FM108. The station manager said Alan was “the best morning man around.” Alan later sold TV advertising and did marketing and sales for auto dealerships.

Alan loved Wisconsin, having spent years there. He was a passionate Green Bay Packers fan. He loved deer hunting with his brother Neil and other family in Wisconsin. He was proud of his wife, kids and grandchildren. He was known affectionally to his grandchildren as “Grumpy Grandpa”.

He is survived by his wife Beth, his children; Stephanie Parker (Matt Dotterer), Ronda Ramsburg (George), David Parker (Robin) and his five grandchildren; Tim Parker (Sarah), Brandon Parker (Samantha), Ashley Parker, Forest Dotterer, Sawyer Dotterer. He is further survived by his brother Philip (BilleSue), sister-in-law Ann Parker, sister-in-law Pyo Parker and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Brian and Neil, sister Jean Griffiths (Jim), and son Gregory Parker.

In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Wounded Warrior Project or The Candlelight Theater (Arden).

The family will receive visitors at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, on Monday 8/9 from 10AM to 11AM with a memorial service at 11AM. Burial will be at Millsboro Veterans Cemetery.
