William West

William C. West

LEWES - William C. West passed away at home surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, January 2, 2016.  He was 84.

He was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1931, son of the late William S. and Margaret Carroll West.

Mr. West was a proud veteran serving his country in the Naval Reserves.

Bill started his working career as an apprentice in his father's barber shop in West Chester, eventually becoming a licensed barber himself, an achievement he was always proud of.  He was also employed for several years with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in West Chester, and lastly by Bell of Pennsylvania, first as a technician and later in a management position, retiring in 1990 after 35 years with the company.

He enjoyed woodworking and cherished trips to Alaska for the amazing sights both by land and sea, and driving to New England to vacation at a cozy cabin in Vermont.

Bill was one of the founding members of Boy Scout Troop #153 in West Chester, PA, a member and past Fire Chief of the First West Chester Fire Company, and was active in many charity organizations, most especially with the March of Dimes in Cape May County, New Jersey.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Ann West.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia M. West; four sons, William C. West, Jr. and his wife Jackie of San Diego, CA; Thomas West and his wife Ellen of West Chester, PA; Sean West of West Grove, PA; and Fredrick West of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Nathan West, Ethan West, Jacob West, and Ryan Nicole West; and five great-grandchildren, Jayleen, Eliot, Hendrix, Sienna, and Liam, all of California.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may greet the family one hour prior.

Interment will be held privately.
