William A. Vendetti, 91, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 25th, at his home in Milford Delaware. To say he will be missed by many is an absolute understatement.
William (Bill) was born on June 19, 1934, at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, to the late Joseph J. and Hattie V. Vendetti, Sr. Growing up as military children, Bill and his brothers lived in more than 20 states. The family eventually settled in Baltimore, MD, and he graduated from Kenwood High School in 1953. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, during which time, he traveled to Okinawa. In 1958, he married the love of his life, the late Patricia A. Hessenauer. While working full time and taking care of his wife and child, he demonstrated his persistence and determination as he received his B.S. in Business from the University of Baltimore in 1975, after attending night classes for 11 years. He spent most of his career as a computer systems analyst for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In his retirement, he worked for the Lutheran Mission Society of Maryland. He and Pat loved to travel, entertain, and spend time with their many friends and family members. They were experts at finding reasons to celebrate! After the death of his wife, Bill moved to Milford, DE, in 2015 to be near his daughter, Dina Carol Vendetti.
Bill is survived by his only child, Dr. Dina Carol Vendetti, of Dover; and his brothers, Joseph J. Vendetti, Jr., of Hagerstown, MD, and Jerry M. Vendetti (Irma), of Selbyville, DE, and their families. He also leaves behind several cousins and family members, his beloved friends at "his" favorite places: Roma Italian Restaurant in Dover, the Milford Diner, the Milford Senior Center, and Reformation Lutheran Church; and all the others with whom he shared life, laughs, flowers, and candy. He will be remembered for his kind generosity, his quick wit, his sense of duty, his strength, his love of life, and his propensity to make people smile.
A Memorial Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 27th, at Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Drive in Milford. Visitation will be at 10am, with the service to follow at 11am. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Reformation Lutheran Church or to the Milford Senior Center.
