It is with profound sadness that the family of Walter H. Peters announce his passing on October 28th, 2025 at the age of 94. Walt had been a resident of the Delaware Veterans Home In Milford Delaware since July 2025.
Walt “Pete” was born on June 4, 1931 to the late Elsie Peters (Schmidt) and Richard Peters in Delair, New Jersey. Pete enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and served in the Korean War. After his tour was over in Korea, he went to Quantico, Virginia for drill instructor duty. Sergeant Peters earned the title of Drill Instructor for PLC (Platoon Leaders Class/Officers). After his enlistment in the Marine Corps, Walt and his brothers Richard and Albert started a masonry business.
Walt enjoyed fishing and crabbing and would often take his children and grandchildren out on his boat. Pete also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, farming, restoring and creating, and had a hidden talent of cooking. He had a passion to stay in shape and continued running well into his seventies! Pete, along with his wife, were so fortunate to travel the world. Some of their journeys included Germany, Poland, Italy, Nova Scotia, and Budapest Pete always had a smile on his face and a warm heart to go with it. Walt is survived by his wife Ruth of 68 years, daughters Donna Hill (Barry), Diane Ryan (John), and Danielle Eades (Darin). Grandchildren Stephanie Burton (Paul), Joseph Serpa IV (Kristina), Madalyn Pearcy (Riley), Shelby and Ransom Eades. Great Grandchildren Chloe, Emma, and Caleb Burton, Leona Serpa, and Leah Pearcy, and several nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Richard, Edward, and Albert, and sister Elsie, and daughter Deborah Serpa. He touched so many lives, what a privilege to have known him.
