Walter D. Marvel

Age 87, of Milford, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Walter was born on September 5, 1925 in Milton, son of the late Granville T. and Elsie May (Argo) Marvel.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving his country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

Mr. Marvel was employed with the I.U.O.E. Local 542 out of Ft. Washington, Pa., as a heavy equipment operator, reporting to jobs up and down the East coast. After retiring there, he worked in the same capacity at separate times, for Melvin Joseph Construction in Georgetown and George & Lynch, Inc. in Dover. Walter also ran the operations and scheduling for Owens Station Shooting Preserve and Sporting Clays Range for 10 years, a position he held close to his heart because of his own love for the sport.

Walter was a master at Trap Shoots and Sporting Clay events, winning many awards at meets across the country. He was also an enthusiastic duck hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marion V. Marvel; a step-son, Robert Sleva and his wife Jodie of Milford; two step-daughters, Linda Blyth and her husband Howard of Smyrna, and Diane Lynch and her husband Greg of Milford; a sister, Dorothy Wiest of Seaford; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963.
