Susan Clare Isaacs, Sue 79, of Summerfield, Florida and formerly of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware passed away peacefully the morning of Friday, June 14, 2024 at her home in Summerfield, Florida.
Born in Milford, Delaware, she was the daughter of Lawrence P. Isaacs and Vivian Shute Lombardo of Lincoln, Delaware.
She graduated from Milford High School in 1963. Nicknamed “Ozzie”, she was an energetic and skillful athlete participating in many sports activities. Susan fondly recalled being a member of the field hockey team with an unscored upon record season. She received her senior letterman award.
Following her high school graduation, Sue worked in Maryland in the medical field for several years which inspired her to attend Howard University in Washington DC. She graduated valedictorian with a Bachelor of Science degree and became one of the first Physician Assistants in the area. She loved all the fields of her profession, especially the ER. She ended her 35 year medical career in Rehoboth Beach area in a private practice.
Joining the bone marrow donor registry and being a successful match, Sue became a cherished member of the Baxter family in Texas. Debbie, the recipient of Sue’s bone marrow, lived for 22 years following the procedure which permitted her to watch her own family grow to adulthood. Sue and Debbie walked Debbie‘s daughter Devin down the aisle on her wedding day.
Susan loved traveling, golfing, painting and volunteering. Broadway shows, the beach, hiking/biking on the many trails in the area, and star gazing were among her favorites. Also, the joy and happiness her many dogs gave her over the years and spending time with her extended family and friends in both Delaware and Florida.
A special achievement for Sue was earning her private pilot’s license and flying friends and family over Sussex County where she and her two sisters grew up.
Having grown up on a farm with her sisters and a lot of her cousins, she maintained a deep family connection. A love and closeness she cherished her whole life. She loved spoiling her great niece and nephews. Family get-togethers were always very large gatherings and fun times.
A few years ago, Sue joined family members in presenting a land donation to Abbott’s Mill Nature Center of Delaware, near the Isaac’s farmland. It is a legacy, she was very proud of due to her love of the beauty and protection of nature and wildlife.
Sue’s beautiful smile, generous nature and witty sense of humor greeted all who called her family or friend.
Sue, a lifelong Methodist, attended Sunday school at Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, later becoming a congregation member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach.
Sue is dearly missed by her partner Cathy Luchetta. In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her sister Beth Isaacs of Asheville, North Carolina and her niece Bonnie Tebbens Twilley of Lincoln, De.
She is survived by her sister Kay I. Greene wife of James of Lincoln, Delaware. She also leaves behind her nephew Ben Tebbens, her nephew-in-law, Kevin Twilley, their families and many friends.
A celebration of life of Sue will take place at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home on Friday September 27th at 1PM. Friends may gather starting at 12:30PM.
