Steve Deeney

Milford

MILFORD, DE – Steven Deeney, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather departed this life on August 6, 2024. He was born in Milford, DE on July 1, 1953 to John J. Deeney Sr. and Verna A. Dees.

Steve was a cheerful, kind and fun loving man. In his younger years he was often referred to as “Sauce” or “Bone Head” by his many friends. He was a jokester and often the life of the party. His favorite restaurant was Dairy Queen and in true Deeney fashion he never met a dessert he didn’t like.

He worked for the State of Delaware as a Maintenance Supervisor for Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs before retiring in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, camping and nature in general. He was a Master of Tinkering. Always working on a project. 

He graduated from Milford High School in 1972 where he played football for the Buccaneers. After graduation he played Lacrosse for the Delaware Lacrosse Club. He enjoyed all sports and coached his sons and many other Milford kids in Pop Warner Football, Parks & Recreation Basketball and Milford Little League Baseball.

He was proceeded in death by his father, John J. Deeney Sr. and step mother Marian S. Deeney, his mother, Verna Dees and step father, James Dees. 

Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 44 years, Dianne (Grove) Deeney, his sons, Joshua Deeney and Stuart (Joy) Deeney all of Milford. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Morgan Deeney which he held close to his heart and had a very special relationship with. Also surviving him are his brothers, John Deeney Jr, Mark (Terri) Deeney of Milford, Regina (James) Bridgeland of Palm Bay, FL, his brother-in-law, Ed Grove of Georgetown and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he is also survived by his step siblings, Joe (Terry) Stokes, Maggie (Larry) Legates, Patty (Andy) Petrach and their families. 

A visitation will be held on Sunday August 18th from 1PM to 3PM at Rogers-Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
