On Monday July 13th, Stephen L. Swadley (“Steve”) passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford at age 71.
He was born on August 20, 1954, in Marlington, W.V. to the late Raymond and Vera Swadley.
Steve's family relocated to Ocean View, Delaware during his childhood. He graduated from Easton High School in 1972 before attending West Virginia University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication and master's degrees in Special Education and History.
Throughout his teaching career, he taught in several school districts at both the elementary and secondary levels, finding great joy in working with students and believing deeply in the importance of making a positive difference in their lives. In 2013, he retired from PolyTech as a Driver’s Education Teacher.
A longtime member of the Milford Lions Club, he was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was an avid West Virginia Mountaineers fan, loved music, enjoyed spending time at the beach, and had a lifelong interest in history. He had a knack for finding humor in almost any situation and was always quick with a joke or a story. His smile could brighten a room and make someone's day a little better.
Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pamm Swadley; his daughters, Stephanie Swadley and her husband John Wendel, and Beth Swadley and her partner Tony Pallanta; his grandchildren, Reagan and Archer Wendel; his sister, Deborah Engel and her husband Kenneth; his niece, Sarah Engel; and his nephew Tyler Lewis.
Mr. Swadley was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Roberta (“Bobbie”) Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, at 1PM on Tuesday July 21st, with visitation starting at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Cure HHT at www.curehht.org or to the Brandywine S.P.C.A. at https://bvspca.org/donate.
