Samuel Lee Benton

Of Milford, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 75.

Samuel was born on July 21, 1935 in Felton, son of the late William T. and Elsie (Butler) Benton.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Benton was employed for 46 years with Mill Del Overhead Door in Milford, retiring as a supervisor in 1985. After his retirement, he became self employed as owner and operator of S&R Sanitation.

One of his favorite pastimes was participating in local turkey shoots. For several years, Mr. Benton owned and raced ponies, accumulating many trophies over that time. He was a former member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534 where he had enjoyed playing competitive darts with fellow members and at other Lodges.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons; Eric Benton and Barton Samuel Benton; a daughter, Sherry Allen Benton; two brothers, George Benton and Laben Benton and two sisters, Martha Jane Watkins and Effie Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth M. Benton; a son, Danny Benton of Houston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Martha and Nathaniel Brown of Felton, Cheryl and John Boone of Farmington and Linda Benton of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carol and George Torbert of Milford and Laura Brenneman of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call two hours prior.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE, 19963.
