Robert “Bobby” Chalmers, Jr., 80, of Milford, Delaware passed away peacefully at home on September 17th, after a long battle with cancer.

Robert was born on April 16, 1943, in Wilmington, Delaware, the only son of Robert and Mildred Chalmers. Post education, he went to work at Delaware Electrical Cooperative, retiring after a 43-year career. During that time, he was an active member of the union, as well as holding the position of President of the IBEW Local 2270 union.

He loved serving others. His volunteerism spanned multiple area fire companies. He was a lifetime member of Memorial Fire Company, serving in various roles as a Building Superintendent, Fire Police, and on the Board of Directors. He had 50 years of loyal, hardworking, committed, and dedicated service to three different fire companies.

Robert loved sports and played high school basketball as well as playing in adult basketball and baseball/softball leagues with friends. He coached Little League baseball and local youth football.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Norma Jean Chalmers, his daughter, Michelle Chalmers Phillips, his son, Robert Chalmers III and wife Ronica, his daughter, Laura Chalmers Wedel and her husband, Jay Wedel, and his son, Michael Chalmers and fiancée Amanda Sharadin, by his grandchildren; Stephen Chalmers and wife Kristen, Jordan Wedel and husband Patrick Hughes, Arden Phillips, Jaymeson Wedel, Tyler Chalmers and fiancée Riley Wood, Jackson Phillips, and Jude Wedel, Addy Smith, a great-granddaughter, Hannah Chalmers, two loving sisters, Sarah Botte, and Ruth Brown, and his lifelong, dearest friend, Alan Jester.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rober Chalmers, Sr., and Mildred Smart Chalmers, as well as a sister, Shirley Collison. 

He cherished his family and friends. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, and a member of a local hunting club. He supported each of his children and all of their endeavors and took great pleasure in watching them start families of their own. He loved and was proud of his grandchildren and loved seeing them in school events and attended as many of their sports games as possible over the years.

The family will receive visitors at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 11AM to 1PM on Friday 9/22, with a funeral service at 1PM. Interment is Milford Community Cemetery.
