Richard Charles Bielawski, Sr., passed away tragically and unexpectedly as the result of a hit‑and‑run accident on March 24, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on March 4, 1952, Richard was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud great‑grandfather, United States Navy veteran, and a cherished friend to many. His sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Richard was the center of his family’s world. Kind, generous, and endlessly loving, he would do anything for anyone without hesitation. His sense of humor was truly unmatched—whether offering lighthearted fun or well‑timed levity, Richard had an extraordinary ability to bring smiles even during difficult moments. He often joked, “I am too young for grandchildren, way too young for great‑grandchildren—and let’s not even talk about my grown children,” a reflection of both his youthful spirit and the deep pride he felt in his family.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Richard served his country as a Seaman Apprentice from July 9, 1970, to July 30, 1974. He was stationed aboard the USS Grand Canyon, a destroyer class tender, and earned the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his service. The strength, courage, and loyalty that defined his military service remained steadfast qualities throughout his life. Despite all he had endured, Richard was—and always will be—a child at heart.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Mary Mathews. He was a devoted father to Kristen Bielawski (and her fiancée, Derek Serino), Tiana Chou (and her husband, Alex, and children Maddox and London), and Richard Bielawski, Jr. (and his wife, Maritza, and son Kyan). He was a beloved brother to Tony Bielawski, Bobby Bielawski, and Ronny Bielawski, and was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Bielawski.
Richard was also a beloved stepfather to Mary’s children: Jennifer Boylan (and her partner, Tim Scout, and daughter Riley and Riley’s daughter Leilani), Paul Mathews (and his wife, Jen, and daughter Sarah), and Scott Mathews (and his wife, Ann Lewandowski, and children Summer, Sawyer, and Andie).
A devoted animal lover, Richard is also lovingly remembered by his faithful dogs, Stormy and Breezy, who were constant companions and a daily source of joy.
Richard will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his humor, kindness, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he held so dear.
