Raymond Thomas Stoops

Of Milford, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia after a short illness. He was 84.

He was born on February 29, 1928 in Wilmington, son of the late Horace Nolan and Julia (Wilson) Stoops.

Ray graduated from Temple University High School in Philadelphia and received his bachelor of arts and master's degrees from Salisbury State Teachers College.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at 17 years of age and proudly served his country for two years.

Mr. Stoops was a life long member of the Milford Community and will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated educator for over 45 years. He taught in the Milford School District and also worked for the Delaware State Board of Education as Transportation Supervisor for the Milford, Indian River and Lake Forest School districts and served on the Milford Board of Education.

Ray loved listening to the music of Frank Sinatra, was a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan and was an avid history buff.

He was a member of the Milford Senior Center and an active member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford for over 60 years.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his twin sister, Ruth May Stoops and a sister, Laura Stoops Bateson and three brothers; Horace, James and Joseph Stoops.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie Stoops Argo and Howard Argo; two grandchildren, Mary Jocelyn Argo and Howard Thomas Argo, all of Greenwood and several nieces and cousins across the state.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford, where friends may call after 11:00 a.m.

Burial with military honors will follow the services in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Att: Tribute Gifts, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY, 10008-0780.
