Milford – On December 5, 2023, Paul A. Pettit went home to be with the Lord. He was 78.

Paul was born on September 12, 1945 in Anderson, S.C. to the late Baron Pettit and Dorothy Pettit Banning.

His family moved to Milford when he was young and he attended Milford High School, class of 1963. Paul honorably served our country in the Army, 4th Battalion of the 18th Infantry, from 1962 to 1965, stationed in Berlin, Germany.

After the Army, Mr. Pettit worked for Wharton and Barnard selling auto parts before buying Discount Auto Parts in Harrington, which he owned and operated from 1978 to 1985.

He was a member of the Harrington Moose #534, where he became Governor. Paul was a life member of the VFW. In the 1970’s he was an an active member of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Company, serving as an Engineer, Assistant Chief and Chief.

Paul loved the Lord and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Dover where he was an usher for many years.

Mr. Pettit was the Class D and State Handicap Champion for Trap Shooting for Delaware in 1976.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, and going to Texas or Florida every winter with his wife.

As a Father, Grandfather and Uncle, Paul never missed an opportunity to spend time with his family. Whether it was a dinner, birthday, wedding, holiday celebration or a visit with family in Idaho, family always came first.

Mr. Pettit is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy Pettit. He is also survived by his children, Keith Pettit and his wife Bonnie, Tammy Ramsey and her husband Kevin, and his grandchildren, Cody Pettit and his wife Kelsea, Tiffany Zoll and her husband Gary,  Shannon Haney, Abby Haney,  Ashley Hansen and her husband Josiah, TraChell Selga and her husband Louie, and James Ramsey and his wife Alexia, 15 great grandchildren, and his sister, Wanda Taylor.

In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by brothers, James, Randall, and Milford Pettit, his sisters, Conice Kernodle  and Sarah Looney, and his step father, Charles Banning.

The family will receive visitors at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM on Tuesday 12/12, with a funeral service at 12 noon.

Interment is Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Southside Baptist Church, 4904 South DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901
