On August 18, 2023, with his wife at his bedside, Michael D. Williams peacefully went home to be with the Lord.

Michael was born 72 years ago in Kinston, North Carolina to the late James and Hazel Williams. In his youth, he was a Boy Scout and competitive diver who also worked at his father’s barbershop where he became known to his local community as “Mickey”. He graduated from Adkin High School in 1969. In July of 1969 he voluntarily enlisted in the US Army, where he honorably served our country as a Combat Medic in Vietnam. His active duty service also included working at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC where he assisted wounded soldiers.

In the winter of 1972 in Washington, DC, he married Angie, his best friend and high school sweetheart. They returned to Kinston and in 1973 had the first of their three children. Michael worked at Texfi Industries before starting a life long career in the insurance industry. It was at Texfi, while reading his bible during a break, that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

At United Insurance Co. of America (later Transamerica) he started in sales and was promoted to Manager in Greenville, N.C.  Later on he was promoted to District Manager in Cherry Hill, N.J. where his achievements garnered numerous awards and national recognition from the company. Michael was a natural leader whose contagious optimism and energy motivated all who knew him.

In 2011, he began enjoying the fellowship of the “Beacons” senior group at Lighthouse Church in NJ, where he was also a warm and charismatic greeter on Sunday mornings. He spent his free time tinkering in his garage, perfecting his lawn, hanging out with his neighbors on Tenby Court, loudly laughing and telling stories.  Family meant the world to him. Michael leaves behind the inspiring legacy of the value of hard work, tenacity, love, kindness and most of all, humor.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Angie Williams, his son Michael D. Williams, Jr. (Shondra), and his daughter Melonee Williams.  His grandchildren: Alana Reid, Makeleh Williams, and Michael J. Williams. Siblings: Clifton Williams, John Williams (Helen), Joseph Williams (LaVern), Samuel Williams (Clara) and Marynette Coward (Wesley Sr).  He is also survived by his son-in-law Ken Wise and Ken’s two children Alexa & Eric and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Michael will be greeted in heaven by his daughter, Candice Williams-Wise, and his sisters; Hazel Holmes and Gloria Patrick-Rollins.

A funeral service will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE  19966, at 11AM on Monday 8/28.
