It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael David Kohut, 73, of Greenwood, Delaware, on June 8, 2026. Michael was born on May 5, 1953, at Clark Air Base in the Philippines.
Michael was a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, and cherished member of his community. Known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand, he touched the lives of many and was loved by countless friends and neighbors.
Michael enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and hunting. He had a passion for cooking gourmet meals for family and friends. He looked forward to going to the hunt club of which he was a member, Vernon Creek Hunt Club, affectionately known as “The Shop.” He cherished the time spent with his friends there. Additionally, he was the renowned “Head Chef” of the club, and his absence will be deeply felt by all.
Michael, a graduate of Lake Forest High School in the Class of 1973, pursued his studies in Entomology at the University of Delaware before joining Delmar Power. He dedicated 37 years of his life to building a distinguished career as a lineman with Delmarva Power, retiring at the age of 62.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Kohut; stepdaughter, Kristin Schaap; stepson, Master Sgt. Leland R. Schaap, USAF, and his wife, Sigoni; and grandchildren Jonah, Roman, and Cassian Schaap. Michael loved his grandchildren deeply and took great pride in watching them grow and celebrate their accomplishments.
A private memorial for family and friends will be announced at a later date. Donations in Michael’s name will be accepted for Vernon Creek Farm Hunt Club, c/o Charles D. Jones, 679 Drapers Corners Road, Harrington,DE19952.
