Saturday October 14, 2023, Maureen James O’Brien peacefully passed away at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford. She was 76.
Mrs. O’Brien was born on February 5, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward and Mary James. She graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in 1964.
Maureen worked 10 years for the Federal Government on the Draft Board, before pursuing entrepreneurship in Food Service. She then was a Hospice volunteer and Elder Caregiver on Staten Island, New York. While living in New Jersey, she worked for a catering company. After moving to Delaware, she became a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children in the state.
Maureen was loving and caring. She most enjoyed moments shared with family and loved ones.
Maureen is survived by her husband of 30 years, Denis O’Brien. She is also survived by her children, Jackie Fudge and her husband Ken, Janice Kerrigan and her husband Jeffrey, Alfred Gaudet Debra O’Brien, and Jonathan Gaudet and his wife Melissa, her grandchildren, Billy, Danny, Matthew, Rylee, Felicia, Lily, and Michael, and her sister, Patsy Bixler.
Mrs. O’Brien was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Peggy Buchner.
The family will receive visitors at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 6PM to 8PM on Friday 10/20 and from 10AM to 12PM on Saturday 10/21, with a funeral service at 12PM.
Cremation to follow.
