Mary Evelyn Doughten

Of Milford, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood. She was 92.

Mary was born on June 14, 1919 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Harry Wayne and Mary Dailey Abbott.

In addition to her loyal commitment as a mother and a minister's wife, Mrs. Doughten also held employment over the years as an LPN at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury and Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, was the Director for several years at separate times for the Greenwood and Lewes Cheer Centers, a buyer for Leggett Department Store and for 20 years was a Foster Mother for over 250 children for the State of Delaware Children's Bureau.

Mrs. Doughten was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James B. Doughten, Jr. in 2002 and two brothers; James Abbott and Roy Abbott.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James Mark and Patti Doughten of Jonesboro, GA and James B., III and Frances Doughten of Milford; two daughters, J. Gail Keen of Lincoln and Louise Sieminski of Newark; four sisters; Laura Abbott of Harbeson, Jane Lines of Cherry Hill, NJ; Lois DiTeodoro of Newark and Carol Vernelli of Milton; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Country Rest Home, 12046 Sunset Lane, Greenwood, DE, 19950.
