Herbert D. Robbins

Of Frederica, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 90.

Herbert was born in Frederica on September 16, 1921, son of the late Luther R. and Natalie C. Robbins.

He graduated from Felton High School with the Class of 1939.

Mr. Robbins was a Veteran of World War II serving with the Second Air Command Unit in the Army Air Corp. He was a recipient of the Air Medal with three clusters and the Distinguished Red Flying Cross.

He was employed with Wharton and Barnard in Milford for 20 years. He purchased Wilson and Gerow Hardware in Frederica in 1962 which later became Robbins Hardware and ran the business with his sons until he retired in 1988.

Herb loved the game of poker and played every Tuesday with a group of friends. He also enjoyed occasional trips to the casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. In the summer months, he spent many happy times with his family, friends and neighbors at his cottage in South Bowers Beach. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all.

He was a member of the Murderkill Lions Club from January 1, 1952 to the present and was a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow and a Diamond Ralph Helm Fellow; a member of the Frederica Volunteer Fire Co; a Lifetime member of the Felton V.F.W. Post #6009; a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534; the Milford Elks Lodge #2401, the Frederica and Harrington Senior Centers and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy S. Robbins.

He is survived by two sons; Jeff Robbins and wife Kim and Frank Robbins and wife Polly; a granddaughter, Tammy Jo Aguilar and husband Danny; three grandsons, Brian Robbins and wife Bonnie; Michael Robbins and wife Jennifer and Randy Robbins and wife Denise; nine great-grandchildren; Austin and Grace Aguilar; Parker and Ashley Robbins; Chloe Robbins and Connor McNamire and Rhett, Brock and Reese Robbins; a cousin, Bill Boyce and wife Mary Lou; a niece Barbara Fritts and husband Frank and a special friend, Freda Kelley.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4, Frederica, DE, 19946 or Frederica Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 283, Frederica, DE, 19946.
