Helen T Ward Yearwood (nee McQuaid), 85, died November 5, 2020 at Heritage Oaks of Englewood, Florida with her daughter by her side. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Elsie (Millman) McQuaid. She was the wife of 6 months to the late Ernest “Jack” Ward and of 35 years to the late Cecil Dudley Yearwood.
Helen graduated from West Catholic Girls High School (class of 1953) and worked as a laboratory technical at Rohm & Haas where she met and later married Cecil. She was a long-time resident (50+ years) of Ridley Park raising her family, volunteering at Saint Madeline’s Catholic Church and working as a crossing guard for 30+ years. She was well known in the community. Additionally, she was a supporter and volunteer for a diverse list of charitable organizations including Appalachian Children’s fund, Camp Sunshine, Needlework Guild, St. Labre Indian School of Ashland, MT.
Helen enjoyed summers at the Delaware beaches and camping with her family. She was a loving mother and loyal friend to many.
Helen moved to Gloucester Virginia in 2016 under the care of her daughter Kathy. In early 2020 she moved to Florida again under the care of Kathy.
Helen is survived by her daughter Kathleen Mixon and her two sons Kenneth Yearwood (Maria) and Bryan Yearwood (Lana); eight grandchildren: Matthew Bentley (Leslie), Kristina Dodson (Jordan), Kelly Mixon, Olivia Yearwood, Julia Brennan (Kyle), Dustin Yearwood (Annie), Dalton Yearwood and Griffin Yearwood: two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Kyle Dodson.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, John McQuaid, and two sisters, Catherine Lare and Mary Donahue.
