On May 24th, 2026, Godfrey “Sandy” Saunders, went home to be with the Lord. He was 95.
Sandy was born on September 4th, 1930, to the late Godfrey and Dorothy Saunders, in the Bronx, New York.
He grew up in the Bronx and would help his father bake bread at the local A&P Grocery Store as a child.
After high school, Sandy joined the Army and honorably served our country during the Korean War.
After the Army, Sandy joined the Haworth, New Jersey Police Department and served there for 25 years, retiring as a Sergeant.
He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, making stained glass, and baking bread. He could be found enjoying his buddies at the Senior Center swapping army stories and sharing recipes.
Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa Saunders.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurel Pastor and his grandchildren, whom he adored, Megan and Michael Pastor. He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey Saunders and his wife Leslie, his grandchildren, Godfrey and Valance Saunders, and his great granddaughter, Hadley Saunders.
The family will receive visitors at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 10AM to 12PM on Wednesday 5/27, with a funeral service at 12PM.
Interment is at the Delaware Veteran’s Cemetery in Millsboro.
