George Robert Pinney

Age 89, of Milford, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011 at his home.

Bob was born on January 8, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, son of the late Gilbert G. and Hazel (McGinnis) Pinney.

Mr. Pinney devoted 22 years as a pilot with the United States Navy, later serving in the Pentagon, retiring with the rank of Commander in 1963. During his tenure with the Navy, he was awarded the Navy Cross and two Air Medals for extraordinary heroism as a carrier-based dive bomber pilot in World War II. After retirement, his vast knowledge of aircraft and long time experience as a pilot landed him an executive position with Boeing-Vertol from 1963 to 1970.

His final business venture was with his wife, Nancy, as co- owners of Newtown Square Travel, which they operated until 1984 when they retired fully and moved to Milford.

In his free time, Bob was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Pinney was preceded in death by his brothers, Gilbert Pinney and William Pinney.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy W. Pinney; three sons; Bill Whitaker and his wife Margo of Media, PA; Bruce Whitaker and his wife Robin of Columbia, MD and David Pinney of Centralia, WA; a daughter, Debra Rowley of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren; Bethany Wilson, Casey Whitaker, Matthew Whitaker and Tom Whitaker and two great grandchildren; Brittany Rose Wilson and Noah Wilson.

Services and burial with Military Honors will be held privately at Arlington National Cemetery.
