On Tuesday, January 20th, Frances B. Johnson peacefully went home to be with the Lord. She was 92.
Frances was born on April 29, 1933 in Golts, MD. to the late Erving and Minnie Brown. She grew up in a farmhouse outside Townsend, DE. and graduated from Middletown High School in 1950. She played field hockey and basketball. Her senior trip that year took her to New York City.
After high school, Frances worked for Delaware Motor Vehicle in the payroll department until the birth of her second son Mark in 1959.
Fran and her late husband, Bucky Johnson, were members of the Shawnee Country Club where she was a member and team captain of the lady's golf team. Mrs. Johnson was an avid golfer and three-time club champion and member of the Women’s Peninsula Golf Association.
She excelled in sports and played basketball as a guard in the Kent County Women’s basketball in the 1960s’and early 70s. During that same time period, she was a member of the Gooden Florist Bowling team in Milford and once rolled a 243 game.
In her spare time Frances enjoyed the outdoors, working in the yard, and Saturday night card games with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Bucky” Johnson, her brother, Bill Brown, and her sister, Mary Wright.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons, Michael Johnson (Marie) and Mark Johnson, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, 7 nieces and nephews, her sister, Kaye Heinold, and her sister-in-law, Rita Brown.
A funeral service will be held at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 North Church Street, Milford, at 12 noon on Saturday February 7th, with the viewing to start at 10am.
Interment will be at Slaughter Neck Cemetery that same afternoon.
