Evelyn Stuart Irwin

MILFORD - Evelyn “Evie” Stuart Irwin, a long-time resident of Milford, passed away on February 5, 2015 at the age of 87.

Evelyn was born on February 28, 1927 in Philadelphia; she was the only child of the late Margaret Marie Gould and Morrison Medford Stuart.

She graduated from Olney High School in 1945 where she was a majorette and tap dancer.  Evelyn attended Junior College in Philadelphia and worked as a computer operator during WWII.

She met William John Irwin, Jr. in 1947 when he returned from WWII and they were married on June 26, 1948.  They were married 59 years as of Bill’s death in November 2007.  Evelyn was Bill’s partner in several business ventures including the Dairy Queen in Harrington and Pappy’s Pizza in Dover.  Evelyn was a Past President and member of the Shawnee Home Demonstration Club.  As a skilled seamstress she engineered many works of art from fabric including formal dresses, elaborate costumes and window treatments.

Evelyn was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution courtesy of her Sussex County Stuart family line.  She was a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford and a life time member and Past-Matron of the Georgetown Chapter No. 9 Order of the Eastern Star.

Evelyn is survived by four daughters and their spouses; Mirna Richard and Joe Richard, Sandy Dobronte and Frank Dobronte, Elise Irwin and Robin Kelley, and Elana Perkins and Smith Perkins; eleven grandchildren, Johnathon Richard, Jenna Phillips, Elena Richard, Lauren Phillips, Karlee Vincent, Ali Tucker, William Mac Hall, Kenton Hall, Walker Hall, Francis Kelley and Thomas Kelley; two great grandchildren, Trenon Schimke and Hadley Vincent; a first cousin, Esther Thirwall; and many friends.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Evelyn's life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave, Milford.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Sussex Chapter, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE, 19947 or to the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave, Milford, DE, 19963.
