Donald Adams

July 29, 1949 — October 14, 2018

Milford – On Sunday, October 14, 2018, Donald C. Adams passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Milford Memorial Hospital.

He was born at Lewes Hospital on July 29, 1949, to the late Calvin and Jane (Bailey) Adams.  He lived in Milton until the age of ten, when his family moved to Georgetown.

Don graduated from Georgetown High School in 1967.  That year, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and was Honorably Discharged as a Boilerman Second Class in 1971.  He was based in Charleston, South Carolina; Mayport, Florida; and Norfolk, Virginia.  He deployed to Viet Nam September 1968 through May 1969.  He served on the U.S.S. Waller and the U.S.S. Yellowstone during the Viet Nam War.

After the Navy, Mr. Adams returned to Delaware and began work as lineman for Delmarva Power and Light.  By the end of his 33-year career at DP&L (eventually Pepco Holdings), he was a Senior Associate Engineer in Distribution Standards.

Education was important to Don.  He went to college in the evening and received his Associate of Arts in Business Administration from Wesley College in June 1990 and his Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from Wilmington College in May 1994.

In his “retirement,” Mr. Adams worked as a Manufacturer’s Representative for Utility Lines, Inc., selling high voltage power equipment in Delaware, Maryland, Eastern Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.  After retiring for the second time, he worked as a Construction Representative for Power Delivery Solutions, LLC.

Don was a member and Past Master (1999) of Temple Masonic Lodge #9 AF&AM, in Milford.  He was a member of the Harrington Little League 1980-84, where he umpired for several years.  He became a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Harrington in 1972.

Mr. Adams played baseball and softball for much of his life.  He was a home run hitter.  He loved any sport with a puck or a ball.  He was an avid University of Arkansas football fan as a result of a trip to Arkansas with his father when he was young.  He enjoyed working in his yard and maintained it meticulously.  He had a great sense of humor.

Don loved his family.  He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathleen Adams. He is also is survived by his daughter, Abby Adams and her fiancé Franck Agostini, his stepson, D. Blaine Nashold and his wife Danielle, his stepdaughter, Brandy DeFiglio and her husband Daniel, his grandson, Daryl “Trey” Blaine Nashold, III, his niece, Autumn Murray, who was like a daughter to him, his brother, Calvin Jerome Adams, his sisters, Sherry Rust and her husband Gary, and Donna Bundick and her husband David, sisters-in-law, Mary Gerardi, Gladys Sacco, and Elva Murray, and numerous members of his extended family.

Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.  There will be gathering at Hickory Hill United Methodist Church, 32433 Molly Field Road, Millsboro, following the interment.
