Daniel McGinniss

Daniel “Dan” McGinniss, beloved husband and father, passed away on August 15, 2024. He was born in Chester, PA in 1935. His mother was Edith McGinniss, and he was raised by his grandparents Howard and Annie Grubb.

He graduated from Chester High School in 1954, and he received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester State Teachers College in 1958, and his Master of Education degree from Temple University in 1965. He was inducted into the Chester High School Athletes Hall of Fame and the Delaware County (PA) Athletes Hall of Fame. He taught in Pennsylvania for four years in the Chester School District and three years in the Penn-Delco School District. He then taught for six years at Milford (DE) High School, and served as Principal for 14 years. He finished his professional career after serving for 14 years as Assistant Superintendent of the Milford School District, retiring in 1999. 

In addition to his teaching he also coached athletes at Westtown Friends School, PA; Smedley Jr. High School, PA; Brookhaven Jr. High School, PA; Sun Valley High School, PA; and Milford High School, DE. At Milford High School in 1971 he coached the basketball team that won the state championship.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Florence McGinniss; a daughter, Deborah Pearce; a son, Daniel D. McGinniss; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Maureen McGinniss; five grandchildren, Michael Alan, Aaron, Brandon, and Jonathan Pearce, and Melanie Veloz-McGinniss; and five great grandchildren.

Dan’s funeral services will be private.
