Clyde Lyons Wilkins

Of Milford, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2011 at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He was 86.

Clyde was born on August 29, 1924 in Milford, son of the late Henry W. and Rosella (Lyons) Wilkins.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy proudly serving his country during World War II.

Mr. Wilkins was a letter carrier with the United States Post Office in Milford for 40 years retiring in 1983.

He enjoyed summers spent at his home in Slaughter Beach with his wife, family and friends and fishing and crabbing on the Delaware Bay.

Clyde became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Milford in 1938 and over the years had held many offices including ordained deacon and trustee.

He was a member of the Blue Hen VFW Post #6483 in Milford.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his brother, Henry W. Wilkins, Jr. and a nephew, Henry W. Wilkins, III.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audie Wilkins, two daughters and a son-in-law; Cindy and Alvin French of Milford and Susan Wilkins of Lewes; four grandchildren, Jennifer Graybeal, Kelly Graybeal, Matthew French and his wife Cari and Nathan French and his wife Sheena; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Aidan, Dylan and Kayla French and a dear niece, Carla Wilkins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Walnut Street, Milford.

The family has requested memorial contributions to the Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE, 19963 or to The Sunshine Foundation, Delaware Chapter, P.O. Box 16, New Castle, DE, 19720.
