Charles A. Hatfield, Jr.

MILFORD - Charles A. Hatfield, Jr. passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, December 28, 2015 in Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.  He was 89.

Charles was born on January 14, 1926 in Baltimore, son of the late Charles A. Hatfield, Sr. and Minnie (Summerlock) Hatfield.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during World War II.

Mr. Hatfield earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland and his Masters from the University of Minnesota.

He was employed as a program director for the State of Delaware Board of Health for 31 years retiring from his position in 1991.

Charles took great interest in genealogy and spent many hours tracing his family's roots.  He also loved gardening supplying friends and family with fresh vegetables each year.  Charles loved the simply things in life and was above all a devoted family man.

He was a devoted member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, joining in 1954.  Charles was a Sunday school teacher for several years and served a term as Sunday school superintendant. He was also a willing volunteer in many other church activities.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sue Morrow Hatfield; a daughter, Kim Deutsch and her husband Alan of Arlington, VA; two sons, Mark Hatfield and his wife Kristen of Milford, and Charles A. "Chip" Hatfield, III and his wife Wendy of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, John Hatfield and his wife Marie of Forrest Hill, MD; and four grandchildren, Zachary Hatfield, Ethan Hatfield, Jaden Hatfield, and Anneliese Hatfield.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 North Church St, Milford, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m.

Burial with military honors will follow the services at 1:00 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
