Charles Henry Finfrock, Jr.

Charles H. Finfrock, Jr., age 88, passed away on September 18, 2026, in Milford, Delaware.

Born on March 6, 1938, in Royal, PA, Chuck was the son of the late Charles H. and Mary Finfrock.

After graduating from Redstone High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in multiple assignments including with the USAF/SS 6911th and the 6937th Radio Groups, early U.S. Air Force signals intelligence (SIGINT) units.

In 1958, Chuck married the late Julietta L’Altrelli of Brownsville, PA. They had four children and toured during his service to Japan, Germany, Philippines, Pakistan (Badaber AFB) and stateside to Nebraska and Texas through 1972.

After his service with the USAF, he was then employed by U.S. Steele in PA, working at the Maple Creek coal mine in Washington County until 1989, when he moved to Portland, ME. He worked in various security positions in Portland until his full retirement in 2018.

Chuck remarried in 1980 to Janet Elkind of Pittsburgh, PA. They were married for 40 years.

While living in Pittsburgh, PA, he pursued his love of jazz, playing the trumpet with a jazz band at the Crescendo Lounge. As an avid reader and lifelong learner, he enjoyed exploring history, literature, philosophy, geography, and the rich traditions of cultures around the world. On a clear night, you could find him in a field with his telescope, gazing at the planets and constellations and marveling at the night sky.

Chuck is survived and deeply missed by his children Charles H. (Lisa) Finfrock, III, of Alexandria, VA, Mark (Tara) Finfrock of Washington, PA, Andrea (Edward) Sonson of Smyrna, DE, his 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many more family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marion Moody, daughter Kimberly Finfrock-Noone, and his wife Janet.

A service will be held in Briar Hill, PA at LaFayette Memorial Park.
