Brian C. Felder, poet and lover of the finest things in life passed away at his Milford Delaware home December 3, 2021.
Born August 24, 1945, in Milwaukee Wisconsin to Walter and Muriel (nee Beadell), Brian was brother to Douglas Felder all of whom have now passed away. He is survived by his dear wife Marianne (nee Ebling), family, and friends.
In 1971, Brian was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and in 1974 he earned a Master of Science degree in Library Science also from UWM. His career spanned many years working in the UWM Bookstore and prior to that other bookstores.
A published poet for more than 50 years, Brian, in one of his famously handwritten letters to friends on November 19, 2021 wrote: “I have seen 417 of my poems inked in 346 issues of 146 periodicals and three anthologies in 40 of our 50 states”. That same month, Brian had his first poetry collection, Plain Big Words, published by Wild Shores Press, Delaware, autographed copies of which he shared with his many friends.
Additionally, the Brian C. Felder Small Press Poetry Archive was recently adopted into the Special Collections Department of the University of Delaware Library in Newark, Delaware.
Finally, and perhaps most significantly, Brian served in the U.S. Marines from 1965 until 1968. His last year of duty was in Vietnam, an experience that left an indelible mark on Brian’s psyche. His service in the Marines had always been a source of pride and the object of untold conversations among friends.
Brian, you are missed.
