Alexander Pondok, Jr.

MILFORD - Alexander Pondok, Jr. passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.  He was 80.

He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on December 22, 1935 to Bertha (Smith) Pondok and the late Alexander Pondok, Sr.

Mr. Pondok was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp.

He worked for the Allied Kidd Leather Company in Wilmington for 8 years as an accountant and then later headed the implementation of the data processing group in Boston, MA, where he lived for 8 years before moving his family to Milford and opening the Country Craft Shop which sold craft supplies, gifts, and where many loyal customers came in for his expertise in custom framing.  Alex operated the business for 25 years before retiring in 1997.

Alex loved boating, enjoyed playing golf at the Shawnee Country Club in Milford where he was a member and spending time with his family and grandchildren.  He was also an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed making hand crafted pieces of furniture for his children.

He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford.

Alex is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie E. Pondok; his mother, Bertha Smith of Wilmington; a son, Alexander "Lex" Pondok, III and his wife Teri of Pleasantville, NY; two daughters, Diane Mitchell and her husband William of South Bend, IN; and Dr. Theresa Pondok and her husband Scott Wolfgang of Pelham, NY; two sisters, Grace Duffy of Rising Sun, MD; and Debbie Long and her husband Joe of New Castle; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave, Milford.

Burial with military honors will follow the services at 1:00 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Friends are invited back after the Interment from 2:30-4:00 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church Fellowship Hall for food and fellowship with the Pondok family.
