Fredrick C. Warren

January 16, 1949 ~ October 14, 2017 (age 68)

The Piano Brothers

Fredrick Christopher Warren, of Lincoln, DE died Saturday, Oct 14th, 2017 in the company of his loving wife of 39 years, Carol J. Warren.  He was 68 years old.

He was known intermittently as Chris, Fred, ‘Derf’, and occasionally as Jerome, depending on from where you knew him.  Fred was a Master Gardener who took great pride in his knowledge and application of a great many plant growing techniques.  He was known for giving his friends & family a large variety of flowers, vegetables, and trees throughout the years.  If someone ever needed to know the best location or zone to plant a certain varietal, or the way to solve a certain type of blight on an ornamental or vegetable, he was the man to call.  Even as his health seriously declined over the years, he somehow managed to find inventive ways to keep a large number of plants growing, especially the tomatoes for which he planted seeds in the winter.

Fred was a veteran of the US Army 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and afterward worked at a variety of jobs in the automotive & trucking fields. A traumatic brain injury in 1977 affected him the rest of his life, but in the years that followed he bred and showed Rottweilers, having a natural ability for training them.  He also enjoyed helping local children learn to read, and he fixed many a bicycle.  In recent years he enjoyed baking goodies for his church’s annual Oktoberfest event, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his daughters, Holly (Don) and Freida (Ed), and two beloved grandchildren, Veronica and Aaron.  He is also survived by his brother Tim and his sisters Connie, Kristen, and Suzy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Home Of The Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE.  The Home Of The Brave organization works to reduce homelessness for local veterans.  We’d also ask that you find a way to do a kindness for another person— from holding a door, to visiting a shelter, to paying for a stranger’s lunch.
